坎特伯雷大学建于1873年，至今有100多年的历史。位于新西兰的坎特伯雷省的省会基督城中，原来坐落在基督城的中部，1974年迁到一个空旷的郊外校区。由此去市中心极为方便，去参加包括到哈特山上滑雪等一系列文化娱乐活动也相当容易，基督城是去南阿尔卑斯山，库克山和皇后镇的必经之地。基督城有基督城国际机场，城市坐落在坎特伯雷平原伸向大海的尖角处。
坎特伯雷大学全日制学生共有12500人，其中本科生10000人，硕士生1800人，留学生420人，有教职工1200人，图书馆藏书130万册。
在过去的40年内，坎特伯雷大学接待了数百名外国学生来此学习，特别是有许多来自亚洲的学生。坎特伯雷大学有来自35个的400多名外国学生。
What have you been up to back at UC?
I''''ve just applied to be on the student exec at Te Akatoki, the Māori Students Association. Coming back I''''ve really tried to involve myself in everything Māori because growing up I wasn''''t taught much about my own culture. To be able to come here and learn the language and history is a real eye-opener.
What change has that created for you?
Now when my auntie and uncle come down I can understand them when they''''re speaking in Māori! When my dad passed away I was able to give a whole karakia in Te Reo. That was a huge thing for me. I used to shy away from being Māori but now I''''m really proud of it. I have a new sense of belonging.

New Zealand government has a particular set of expectations and standards in place for universities, which are outlined in The Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. If you are at any stage unhappy with a university process or decision, it is important for you as an international student to follow University processes and talk with the Student Care team or UCSA.
